Public library

The public library is the civilian reading room. The same read a book option also appears at the prison library when you are locked up — same activity, different place.

What you can do

• Read a book — Choose any skill you still have room to improve; a challenge simulates turning pages. Success gives a large boost to that skill plus intelligence, clears the book you were working through, and costs energy. Failure still teaches a little. Prisoners use the same flow to study behind bars.

When to visit

Best when you want one skill to climb off the clock — languages, niche job skills, or shoring up weak spots before choices and job interviews.

Strategy

Each skill remembers how far you are into a book until you finish — start a session when you have energy so you are not stuck mid-book when you are drained.

Special events

Nothing unique to the room beyond reading-related achievements elsewhere in the game. For jail reading, see Prison life.
