Stock market

The stock market lets you invest your hard-earned cash into shares of various companies. Prices change every day based on sector trends, random noise, and news events — so timing matters. You can access the stock market from the Assets menu (second tab).

Getting started

Before you can trade, you need cash. There are no minimum account requirements — buy as few or as many shares as you can afford.

tip

Buy a mobile phone from the Electronics Shop to receive stock news alerts. Without one, price-moving events will happen silently and you'll miss valuable buy/sell signals.

Available stocks

There are 9 stocks across 7 sectors, each with different price ranges and risk levels:

StockSectorApprox. priceRisk
TechCorpTech~150Medium
ByteNetTech~80Medium-High
SolarGenEnergy~45Medium
PetroMaxEnergy~120Low-Medium
MediLifeHealth~200Low
FreshFarmFood~35Low
GameStudioEntertainment~60High
GoldBankFinance~90Very Low
MoonCoinCrypto~10Extreme

Risk reflects how wildly the price swings day-to-day. Low-risk stocks are stable but grow slowly; high-risk stocks can double or crash quickly.

How prices move

Each day, stock prices are influenced by:

  1. Sector trends — entire sectors drift up or down together for a while, then reverse.
  2. Daily noise — random fluctuations scaled by each stock's risk level.
  3. News events — specific stories (positive or negative) push individual stocks or the whole market.
  4. Mean reversion — prices that drift far from their base value are gently pulled back over time.

This means no stock goes to zero forever and no stock rockets indefinitely. Everything trends back toward a natural range eventually.

Reading the market

  • Tap a stock to expand it and see its price chart (look for the chevron arrow on each card).
  • Green arrow = price went up today; red arrow = price went down.
  • The chart shows up to 60 days of price history — look for patterns.
  • Your Portfolio tab shows all owned stocks with profit/loss per position.

Buying & selling

Tap a stock to expand it, then press Buy or Sell. A prompt appears where you enter the quantity — it shows the min and max you can trade:

  • Buying: min is 1, max is based on how much cash you have at the current share price.
  • Selling: min is 1, max is the number of shares you own.

If you only own 1 share (or can only afford 1), the trade executes instantly without the prompt.

News events

If you own a mobile phone, you'll receive news alerts in your diary and see a Latest News banner at the top of the stock market screen. Each news item shows an up/down arrow and how many days the effect lasts.

  • Positive news (e.g. "TechCorp announces AI breakthrough") pushes a stock's price up for several days.
  • Negative news (e.g. "MoonCoin exchange hacked") pushes a stock's price down for several days.
  • Market-wide news (e.g. "Bull market declared") affects all stocks at once.

Without a mobile phone, news still affects prices — you just won't see which events are active.

tip

When you see negative news about a stock you don't own — that's your buy signal. The price will drop for a few days, then mean reversion pulls it back up. Buy the dip, sell the recovery.

Spread rumors (gem feature)

When you expand a stock card, you'll see a Spread Rumors button that costs 3 gems. This injects positive buzz about the selected stock, boosting its price for the next 3 days.

  • You can only spread rumors once every 7 days — a cooldown timer shows when it's available again.
  • Works best when you already own the stock: spread rumors, ride the price up, then sell for profit.
  • Combine with buying the dip: buy a crashed stock cheaply, then spend gems to accelerate its recovery.

Trading strategies

Buy the dip

The safest strategy. When bad news tanks a stock below its typical range, buy shares. The built-in mean reversion will gradually push the price back up. Sell once it recovers.

Ride the news

After positive news, a stock will climb for 2–3 days. If you already own shares, consider selling near the peak before the effect wears off.

The MoonCoin gamble

MoonCoin has extreme volatility — it can surge +30% on viral hype or crash -25% on a hack. It's the cheapest stock to buy in bulk and offers the wildest swings. High risk, high reward.

Safe parking

GoldBank and FreshFarm barely move. Use them to "park" money when you're unsure about the market — they won't lose much value while you wait for opportunities.

aviso

Don't invest money you need for rent, education, or emergencies. Stock prices can drop and stay down for many days before recovering.

Portfolio & profit tracking

The Portfolio tab in the stock market shows:

  • Total portfolio value — current market value of all your holdings.
  • Total profit/loss — how much you've gained or lost overall.
  • Per-stock breakdown — quantity, average cost, current value, and profit percentage for each position.

You can sell directly from the Portfolio tab using the sell button on each stock.
